"Trick or treat. Smell my feet! Give me something good to eat. If you don't, I won't be sad. I'll just make you wish you had!" Some people may hear this rhyme in a week. Here are some ideas from Brookhaven College students to help with Halloween preparations.

Oreo Truffles:

One package of Oreo Cookies

8 oz. of softened cream cheese

16 oz. of melting chocolate

Crush the cookies into fine crumbs with a food processor. Place the crumbles in a medium bowl and add cream cheese. Mix until well blended. Roll cookies into balls about one inch in diameter. Dip balls into chocolate and place on wax-paper to harden.

How to dip truffles:

Place the truffle ball in the melted chocolate to coat. If necessary, roll it. Lift the truffle with two forks (this will allow excess chocolate to run off) then place it on wax paper.

Optional decoration: Sprinkle with reserve cookie crumbs before they harden or decorate with green and orange sprinkles. Original oreos can be substituted with mint or peanut butter oreos.

Recipe yields 70-75 truffles.

Total Cost: $12-15

HalloweenPostcards:

Black, green, orange and white

construction paper

Sharpie

Extra fine point silver marker

Glue

Scissors

Cut black, orange and green construction paper into 4-6 inch rectangles, which is the standard size for postcards. Cut white construction, or computer paper, into 3-5 inch rectangles.

Decorate the colored paper with a contour drawing. A contour drawing is where the pen never leaves the paper while creating a picture. Decorate the colored paper and write a message on the white paper before they are glued together because the ink bleeds through. Be sure to plan room for the address if they are to be mailed.

Glue the white rectangles to the colored ones, the ink sides facing outward, with half an inch framing the white paper. These homemade postcards can be given out to family members, decorate a party or mailed.
