Education and determination were common themes Sept. 25 in Dallas during the "Get Motivated" seminar.

More than 20,000 people packed American Airlines Center and Reunion Arena in Downtown Dallas, to hear speakers such as Gen. Colin Powell, Zig Ziglar, Goldie Hawn, Tony Romo, Avery Johnson and many others.

Each speaker shared personal stories and focused on important factors they felt determined their success. Powell focused on leadership and Hawn had the audience laughing as she danced around the stage. Romo and Johnson brought the crowd to their feet as they cheered for the Dallas Cowboys and the Dallas Mavericks. However, the main focus was on the critical tools needed to achieve success.

High school seniors from Townview Business Management School attended the seminar to learn some of these skills that would help them meet educational challenges ahead.

Most of the students have plans to attend local colleges and were looking for inspiration.

"We saw this as an opportunity to broaden our minds," Luis Arvizo, Townview student, said.

High school senior Hilario Vargas said he felt this would give him an edge in investing.

"This shows us that we can do it," Vargas said.

The students said they felt this seminar would help their careers in business management and give them confidence.

Ziglar said it was the perseverance of a first grade teacher that helped him achieve success. As a child he was very ill and spent most of his time at home, he said. The persistence of one woman allowed him to graduate on time and kept him from being drafted into the military.

This enabled him to enlist in the navy and go to college. Without his college education he said he would never have been a public speaker. Ziglar, 80, has been motivating people for many years and is the author of 25 books.

Ashley Miller, Baylor College graduate, attended the seminar with other members of her company Primerica. She said it reinforced what the college taught her about diligence and hard work. Miller said the seminar was great for students because it focused on achieving goals.

"The speakers gave hope for the future," Miller said. "It focused on not waiting to fulfill your goals. You can do it while you're still young."

The "Get Motivated" business seminars travel around the nation and are hosted by motivational speakers Peter and Tamara Lowe, who have 25 years of experience.
