My boyfriend loves Dick and we've been fighting about it all summer. If you don't know who I'm talking about, I feel envious; I wish I didn't know who Dick Donato is.
Dick is the winner of season eight of CBS's hit series "Big Brother." Because of my boyfriend I started watching the show and I've regretted the strain it put on our relationship.
My boyfriend can be stubborn. He thinks foul-mouthed ED (Evil Dick, as his housemates like to refer to him) is hilarious. He actually admires ED for being the most confrontational player in the game.
He tells me I'm wrong in thinking that Dick's detestable ways of bullying his housemates were anything other than strategies to ensure he stayed in the "Big Brother" house. I can wager anything that Mr. Donato is probably just as mean in real life. Come on; have you been watching the same guy I have?
I tried and tried to get him to stop rooting for Dick to win the big prize money of $500,000 but I guess he had the last laugh when ED actually won in the finale. I just can't believe it and I can't see how America loved Dick too.
If it wasn't for America's Player Eric, ED would have been evicted from the house weeks ago. It was Eric who swung the other four jurors to vote for Dick in the final episode too.
Oh, I was crushed when Eric was evicted; he totally deserved winning half a million dollars, but instead he won about $50,000 for fulfilling America's wishes. How is that even close to fair?
My boyfriend thinks it is. He agrees Eric was good but ED was better. Yeah, better at back stabbing his allies, putting people down and using someone else's fear to his advantage, which are probably ingredients required for winning "Big Brother" but it surely didn't win Dick this viewer's respect.
My boyfriend's mother and I agree that everyone on the show was devious and manipulative but some were gracious about it and Dick just wasn't one of them.
The housemates, during the last decision-making process, agreed that letting Dick win would be sending a wrong message to all viewers; it meant that ED's behavior was excusable. But he did win and I guess we have condoned his despicable actions.
It is not just Dick who I have problems with. I don't like how my boyfriend seems to gravitate toward obnoxiously rude characters. For instance, he adores Dr. Cox from "Scrubs" and Sawyer from "Lost."
He is even contemplating auditioning for "Big Brother 9." He does not stand a chance of winning and that is why I love him.
