McCrary has been at Brookhaven for two months. He said this job is extremely fulfilling at this stage in his career.
"There is more interaction with students at this level," he said.
There are several things McCrary has in mind to improve Brookhaven as a school.
"As good as Brookhaven is, we can become better," he said.
He said he has plans to offer more classes on the weekends for students who work full time.
Brookhaven offers weekend courses but McCrary said he would like to see more variety in courses.
Other campuses offer a variety of weekend courses at different times while Brookhaven's weekend courses meet at the same time.
"I would like to see it become a possibility for students to take four courses on the weekends by offering some courses throughout the whole day on Saturday and Sunday," McCrary said.
Julie Perez, Brookhaven speech professor who has known McCrary for 33 years, said she met him when she interned for him at Mountain View College.
Perez said she was interning at the counseling center and McCrary was her supervisor. She said he is very detail oriented and if he doesn't know the answer to a question he will find it.
Perez said she thinks the weekend college is something that will work at Brookhaven because it gives students a chance to earn an associate degree on the weekends.
With the Early College High School now housed in P Building, classroom space is limited.
"This is another advantage to the weekend college, we'll be able to offer more classes and utilize the extra space," McCrary said.
McCrary said he hopes he can make a difference at Brookhaven. Part of his job is to take on some of the administrative work that faculty has to do. He said one of the most enjoyable parts of his job is getting to meet students.
McCrary said he would much rather be out interacting with people instead of being stuck in his office all day, which he sees as a challenge.
He stays late in his office to read e-mails, which opens up his daytime hours to interact with faculty, staff and students.
