The Caribbean Grill located at 3068 Forest Lane in Dallas houses one of the best kept secrets around Brookhaven College. What is that secret? It is a restaurant that provides atmosphere, style and above all fresh delicious food.

After entering the restaurant I was immediately greeted and seated by owner Roland Frederick, who also gave the name of the waitress as he placed the menus on the table. The restaurant instantly had a welcoming feel and comfortable setting.

Waitress Kia informed us it was happy hour and produced a list of drinks. She also gave the inside tip on drinks worth trying.

The strawberry daiquiri was not much different from the typical ice, rum and strawberry flavor.

I also tried Rum Punch. This drink was the right mixture of flavor and alcohol, which is made with Wray Nephew Over proof Rum, a product of Jamaica.

Frederick said the restaurant's food has Caribbean flavors with heavy Jamaican influence.

The menu is covered with different food names for signature dishes. Different categories of food instantly attract the eye with vivid descriptions.

For appetizers, I ordered fried plantains, which are not bananas but are of the same family and are quite delicious. Although the appetizer was served with the rest of the food, the plantains still tasted great.

The jerk chicken, which was rated on the menu as having triple-threat spice level, was cooked perfectly with a unique blend between the cooking method and spices.

The red beans and rice were a bit dry but did have a flavor all to its own. The side of cooked cabbage was very good.

Overall the food was great and came in large servings. The plate was so overflowing I could not finish it.

The service was great. The owner brought out the food personally and all waiters and waitresses maintained constant attention to each table. The food was relatively inexpensive for such bold flavors and large portions.

The restaurant had flags from most Caribbean countries.

The ambience was set with Jamaican reggae music played at a moderate level. Murals covering the walls depicted a tropical setting and added to the overall feel of the restaurant.

The atmosphere was intriguing; the service was great and the prices were affordable. The Caribbean Grill is definitely a dining experience worth trying for any Brookhaven student.
