Offensively, second baseman Kody Kroll hit a two-run home run for the Bears, which was his first of the year.
''I was excited," Kroll said. "I was hoping it would spark a comeback or give us something to build off going into Saturday, but unfortunately it did not happen.''
On April 21, the Bears played the Harvesters in the second game of the series and first game of a doubleheader. Brookhaven pitcher Brett Reid was on the mound for the Bears in the most important game of the year.
The Bears had to win this game to have any chance at the playoffs, but the Harvesters jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back. Eastfield went on to win 9-5.
Brookhaven started the game with a lot of confidence and energy but it didn't pay off in the end.
Offensively for the Bears, outfielder Chad Hudson and catcher Glenn Wilson hit home runs.
''When you work hard on something all year long and don't reach the goal that you had for yourself, it is going to be disappointing,'' head coach Corey Thornton, said.
Kroll said: ''It is really disappointing not making the playoffs. The difference in the game was that our pitchers couldn't get them out when we needed outs, and we couldn't get hits when we needed to. Eastfield did what they had to do to win and we didn't."
In the second game of the doubleheader and the last game of the series, pitcher Aaron Lowery started for the Bears. The Bears showed no fight in a 15-1 loss.
''As the season progressed, our team matured," Thornton said. "Our infield defense improved greatly in the second half of the season. Overall, our team was not mature enough to make the playoffs. We were easily the youngest team in the conference.''
Thornton said he is excited about next year since pitchers Lowery, Matthew Midgett, Jerry Manning, Reid, Russell Campbell and Nick Marino are all returning.
