Located seven minutes away from Brookhaven College, Dream Café in Addison offers a deliciously varied menu for people with cosmopolitan taste buds.
The menu even makes pizza sound divine with basil pesto, grilled chicken, caramelized onions and brie cheese offered as ingredients.
Starters such as the pot stickers, edamame (steamed and salted soy beans), Thai corn cakes and fundido (spicy cheese and black bean-corn relish fondue) may sound alien, but are very edible.
The pot stickers, which are pork dumplings for the uninitiated, go well with good-old ketchup. I like how six small dumplings come in one order. No super-sized portions for me, please!
Dream Café serves tuna melt and philly cheese steak sandwiches along with traditional burgers. The burgers are made with wheat buns; this means I can eat the fries that come with it free of remorse.
But the restaurant is perhaps best known for its breakfast, which is served all day. A friend who has good eating habits vouches the café's french toast is worth the nine bucks. He does not, however, recommend the cloud cakes, which to him are just overpriced pancakes meant for clouding anyone's judgment.
Also, I would recommend the café's garden stir fry with either shrimp or tofu because the chicken is awfully rubbery.
The café serves a variety of wine and beer for the 21-and-up crowd and offers live music every Thursday after 7 p.m. On other nights, soft jazz music playing in the background will add to conversations.
The interior has vibrant olive-green, purple and saffron colors that are easy on the eyes. The fairly large patio is perfect for a spring night's dining.
While parents can enjoy a glass of wine or beer on the patio, their children can stay entertained at the outdoor playground.
Dream Café is located at 5100 Beltline Rd. on the corner of Beltline and the Dallas Tollway.
