For the first time in school history the Brookhaven College Bears had 11 players hitting at least one 3-pointer, and also had the largest win improvement from the previous season by 10 wins. In the 2006-2007 season the Bears set or tied records in many different categories.

The Bears did not lose any players due to grades for the first time in more than 10 years. Head coach Kevin Hurst attributed the team's academic success to the players.

Hurst said he didn't do anything different from years past.

"All the credit goes to the guys on the team," he said.

This year's Bears became the first Brookhaven team to ever be over .500 at home, on the road and at a neutral site. They tied a school record with a seven-game winning streak, and also tied a school record with eight conference wins.

Guard Craig Green was selected First Team All-Region, guard Mike Love received Third Team All-Conference. Forward Anthony Moore, forward Cedric Clark and point guard Alex Thompson received Honorable Mention All-Conference titles.

Green led the team in scoring with 14.6 points per game and Moore led in rebounds.

Overall Hurst said he was satisfied with the season.

''The players were committed to the system, and we made great progress from the year before," Hurst said. "When you have 10 more wins from the year before it is really good."

He said nine players will return next year, including four of the five starters.

"If it wasn't for the sophomores we wouldn't have had a 10-win improvement from the season before," Hurst said "They will be greatly missed because they meant a lot to the team."

Love, said he was disappointed by the tournament loss to the Lamar State Seahawks but overall, he was pleased with the season.

''The most memorable part of the season was our seven-game winning streak," Love said. "Before [the streak] we had nobody's respect, but after everybody knew how good we were."

Love said the team is looking forward to winning it all next year and the players now know what it takes to get to nationals.
