A victory reception was held in honor of the Lady Bears winning the 2005 National Championship.
Brookhaven President Dr. Sharon Blackman said she extended her congratulations from the office of the president and administration. "We are so proud," she said. "It is really a team effort and that's one of the things that I always talk about here at Brookhaven College."
Athletic Director Lynne Levesque introduced the Lady Bears, which she said was not easy. "This is tough since we spend as much time as we do together from the season, up through nationals and weekend tournaments," she said.
Much appreciation went out not only to the Lady Bears, but the staff and faculty that have contributed to their success. Levesque's dedication to the Lady Bears has not gone unnoticed. "She has always been there to support us and back us up in anything," sophomore Melina Figueroa said. "She's always positive and keeps us on track because she's all about the rules."
Head Coach Jason Hopkins said: "Lynne stands behind us 100 percent. It's really nice to have an athletic director in your corner."
"The equipment room manager, Don Cockrell, has been great helping us get everything set up," Hopkins said. "He went with us, [to nationals] taped all the matches and carried things around for us. He took care of us totally."
As for future plans of the sophomores, Levesque said she's hoping for them all to get full-ride scholarships.
