The ground that Brookhaven College stands on was once known as Springer Stables.

Mike Mixon, Farmers Branch firefighter, said he spent many hours at the stables as a boy.

"We were out in the country in the middle of the city," Mixon said.
College students around the country use summer as a break from school to recharge.

Some students work for extra spending money, some take summer classes while others volunteer.

There are so many different organizations to get involved with, and that could be the deciding factor for an employer hiring one candidate over another with volunteer hours on a resume.

I can feel age sneaking up on me.

I've always had stars in my eyes and I feel I have ripened like a peach. Now I am ready to enjoy the fruit of my work.

Graduating is a turning point in my life and I now see my goals are achievable. It's one of the most amazing feelings I've had, next to traveling.

I want to give a shout out to all the administrators, faculty, advisers and staff at Brookhaven College who helped me achieve my goals.

If there is one issue, one thing I would like to see change for students coming into Brookhaven after my eight years here is a change in the treatment of students.

It is an election year. A question of race and gender has been raised. There is a very unpopular war being waged. Democrats are fighting each other about who their standard bearer will be. This is not 2008 but 1968 and I was there and this is what I remember.

After listening to me talk for an hour about my childhood, my psychologist looked at me with empathy and gently delivered this message, "You do realize that is not normal."

I was absolutely stunned. Didn't other girls skip school to go snake hunting with their boyfriends? I presented to mother my trophy, a water moccasin, which I had killed with a shotgun.
The popular radio host, who has as many fans as critics, has been a part of my early mornings for the past five years.

Memories, at least to me, tend to come in two flavors: bitter and sweet.

This memory is bittersweet to me. I was 9 years old in 1964 when my father decided, as a special gift, he would send me to an expensive summer camp. This, he figured, would be a real treat for me, an urban-bound kid in the middle of Washington, D.
